Look for changes indoors
Damp ceiling marks, moisture in the attic or a drip following rain are reasons to arrange an inspection. Note when the problem appears. Water can travel within the roof, so the position of a stain does not always identify the entry point.
Check from ground level
Missing slates, broken tiles, shifted ridge details and fragments in the gutter may indicate damage. Use a safe ground-level view. Do not climb onto the roof to investigate or take photos.
Consider the junctions
Chimneys, valleys and roof windows create weathering details that can fail even when most of the covering looks intact. A localised defect may be suitable for a repair; wider deterioration needs a broader assessment.
